Treatment systems must be tested and studied to ensure they will work according to plan, and once built, the system must be validated depending on the technologies used.
Simmonds & Bristow have expertise in:
- Pilot studies
- Flocculation
- Coagulation
- Settlement
- Dissolved air flotation and filtration trials
- Chlorine breakpoint and decay testing
- Mixer systems
- Oxygen transfer alpha testing trials
- Silt density index trials.
Conducting these studies are the most cost effective way of evaluating treatment plant design. Laboratory, small scale field trials or full scale plant testing can be carried out depending on the level of technology or equipment being tested. This is useful when servicing industries or remote communities where limited water resources or disposal areas are available or in areas with unique treatment requirements.
We also test new processes to establish engineering design data, control systems and treatment mechanisms, before the processes are released into the market place. This ensures that your system designers and sales force have the appropriate data available to answer customer enquiries and solve technical problems immediately.
Recent Key Projects include:
- Mid-Coast Water (NSW): pilot study for pre-treatment optimization of the Tea Gardens water treatment plant
- Huon Valley Council (Tasmania) Sludge Management Plan: the study included the treatment of sludge for all Council STP and proposed alternative solutions of dewatering and reuse of bioproducts process
- Western Corridor Recycled Water Project: coagulation testing for phosphorus removal
- Croydon Shire Council: coagulation and flocculation testing for water treatment optimisation
- Warwick Water Reclamation Plant: Oxygen Transfer Testing (SOTR & SOTE) validation studies.
Additional Examples:
- Pasminco Century Zinc - reduction of TOC in recycled water system
- Toowoomba STP - chlorine breakpoint testing
- Sinclair Knight Merz - coagulation filtration trials
- Smorgen Steel Mills - metallic particulate removal from lubricant feed water
- Shire Councils - coagulation filtration and coagulation DAF trials
- GHD - fly ash coagulation and settlement trials
In each case client plants and systems capacities have been increased or significant cost savings achieved.
