Contaminated land can result from a range of industrial or commercial activities.  At different stages of use, development or sale, it can be necessary for landowners, occupiers, managers and property developers to employ the services of a qualified professional experienced in contaminated site investigations.

With the provision of both analytical and consulting services, Simmonds & Bristow has the capacity to perform all aspects of your contaminated site investigations; sampling, analysis, interpretation, remediation plans, implementation of remediation plans, and negotiations with regulatory authorities.

  • Site characterisation (location, former land uses, site history, topography and drainage, geology, soil types, surface and groundwaters)
  • Sampling design (eg. systematic or judgemental)
  • Sample collection and quality assurances (Simmonds & Bristow Scientists and Field Officers are NATA Accredited for soil and water sampling)
  • Analysis of soil samples (Simmonds & Bristow holds NATA Accreditation for soil analysis)
  • Preparation of Site Investigation Reports, recommendations for remediation or off-site disposal, submission of application forms to DERM including those for waste disposal permits.

  • Abrasive blasting (surface level contamination by zinc and other heavy metals)
  • Aviation hangar maintenance centre (sub-surface waste chemical and solvent storage system)
  • Asbestos investigation associated with residential fire of a building containing asbestos
  • Local Government Depot comprising Council Workshop, dry storage shed (asbestos roof), chemical storage, materials screening plant, above ground fuel storage tanks and below ground fuel storage tanks
  • Downstream contamination of land and surface waters from mine tailings dam; and
  • On-site reuse of waste sludge from Poultry Farm wastewater pond.
