Don’t Miss Out: January-February Workshops

Are you looking to add to your qualifications? Is your office often quiet during the end of one calendar year and the beginning of the next? If that’s the case for you, this may be the perfect time to get in on one of our popular workshops. IMPORTANT NOTE: These are just a few of our open industry courses. You’ll find the complete listing here, but remember, we update all the time, so check back often!

SWIMMING POOL OPERATIONS:

Firstly, on the 10-12 January our ever popular Swimming Pool Operations workshop, with the opportunity to extend for an extra day to gain nationally recognised units of competency. This 2-day Swimming Pool Operations workshop provides swimming pool owners & operators with an understanding of the requirements for operating a swimming pool and the ability to develop simple operating procedures. The course includes operation, monitoring, testing and maintenance of pumping, dosing, filtration and disinfection processes and may also assist you in reducing your running costs. The course will give a clear understanding of the “QLD Health Swimming & Spa Pool Water Quality & Operations Guidelines” and operator responsibilities. An optional third day can be completed for an accredited outcome for an additional cost. This one also runs in February (28 February 2 March).

INTRODUCTION TO TRADE WASTE:

Secondly a new offering, based on the successful workshop we developed and delivered for a FNQ council team. This 3 day introduction to Trade Waste course is running 23-25 January. It will provide you with the unit of competency NWPTRD023 – Coordinate, implement and report on trade waste monitoring procedures (if you successfully do your assignments (yes there is some homework)). The workshop component will focus on : Sampling techniques, especially grease trap sampling; Performing and recording basic field observations and tests (pH); Reviewing and recording client data eg. Flows, connections, maintenance records; OHS hazard identification and risk assessment, on clients’ sites and relevant to handling samples collected for transfer to external laboratory

LAGOON (OXIDATION POND) OPERATION:

Last but not least, 7-9 February sees Liz offer her popular workshop on lagoon (oxidation pond) operation. This 3 day workshop will have your team getting to know the bugs who do the treatment (bacteria, algae, protozoa & metazoan) and asking each other “Seen anything green lately”? Dust it off & BYO microscope!!

Feedback from a recent delivery was as follows:

We had our scheduled training session for Ponds last week with Liz Millan, it was extremely well received as Liz delivered an interesting program and was easily able to impart her knowledge to the operators.

The training was very informative which has increased the operators knowledge of Lagoon optimisation, the importance of analysing and understanding sample results, having open discussions about different types of trials within the lagoon systems and the importance of the correct location, if required, of aeration equipment.

Below are some of the comments from the operators of the benefits they have received from this training.

  • Understanding how to correctly collect samples
  • Learning to prepare slides for examination, how to use the microscope and microscope camera image/video capture software
  • Using web based easy algal identification key (link provided) plus detailed hardcopy Algae ID key (copy provided to all attendees)
  • Understanding different types of ponds, conditions within various pond types and layers, anaerobic, anoxic (facultative), aerobic
  • Biological processes and where they occur and which organisms do them
  • Understanding test data and how this should be interpreted and applied to operational choices (process troubleshooting)
  • The 6 controls the operator has to optimise lagoon effluent quality
