Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators

About the role

We are looking for Water / Sewage Treatment Plant Operators to join our operator pool to service  sites in Queensland, New South Wales on a fixed-term contracts from 1 month to a year.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Must hold a Certificate III in Water Operations, or above, or equivalent.
  • Experience in operating/maintaining water and waste water treatment plants.
  • Maintenance and Calibration of field equipment (dissolved oxygen meters, field analyses and pH meters).
  • Assist in the preparation of Operation and Maintenance Manuals for Water and Wastewater Treatment plant operation and sampling activities.
  • Work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with our safety policy and procedures.
  • Will hold themselves to high professional standards and be a self-starter.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with management and liaise with clients is important, as is a flexible attitude to work hours.
  • Calm, systematic and logical approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management and liaise with clients.
  • Willing to provide on-call coverage, respond to call-outs and do additional O/T if needed.
  • Good written and spoken English plus the ability to follow procedures.
  • Basic computer skills

What is highly sought after but not a requirement:

  • Certificate in Plumbing or Electrical
  • Chlorine Gas Handling Certification
  • Operate Breathing Apparatus Certification
  • Work in Confined Spaces Certification

Engineer/Project Manager

About the role

  • Immediate Start
  • Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm
  • Accommodation for the four month duration
  • Work vehicle

Tasks to be undertaken

  • Assist team leaders in procuring necessary parts and equipment or organise emergency repairs of Water & Sewer Infrastructure in Walgett Shire.
  • Ensure continuity of weekly drinking water sampling and sewage sampling for COVID-19 surveillance, including reporting and response. This may include bi-annual chemistry sampling of drinking water.
  • Enter daily plant operator’s sheets for water treatment plants, receive updates and feedback on plant performance. Report breaches of CCPs to NSW Health.
  • Provide assistance with engineering and management advice as required by the Council.
  • Assist with emergency repair works which may involve planning and directing the field staff and assigning duties as per information available.
  • Reporting to the Director of Engineering/Technical Services with updates on ongoing works.
  • Liaising with DPIE, NSW Health, EPA, and Public Works Advisory as required.
  • Organise/manage the following ongoing/essential projects (All relevant information/ documentation available will be provided.)
    • Trickle Filter Repair
    • Manhole Sealing Works
    • Bore Inspection
    • Integrated Water Cycle Management Strategy
    • Sewerage Treatment Plant Flow Meter – Inlet
    • Storage Tank Upgrade (2 x 150,000 L tanks in balanced connection with above ground hydrants along the main)
    • Bore Bath Pump Station installation
    • Raising Tanks & Changing Pump Control
    • Hydration Stations installation
    • River Pump Station Flow Meter installation
    • Sewer Mains Condition Assessment – management of contractors

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in Civil/Process/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience in Water / Sewage Industry
  • 7 to 15 years post graduate engineering experience
