The Role

  • Deliver and assess qualifications and units of competency under National Water Training Package
  • Develop learner resource materials
  • Support the learners through their course study
  • Contribute to assessment validation and quality process

To provide the hands-on and practical training, you will need to travel to the student’s workplace, quite often in regional and remote areas.  All travel will be organised and paid for by the company. A typical routine is 2 weeks out then 2 weeks back to the home base, to catch up with assessment / administrative paperwork.

Who we are looking for?

  • Currently (or recently) working in the water industry, with a passion for treatment technologies and/or infrastructure, and water / environmental management;
  • Have a desire to instruct and develop others;
  • Patient, build trust easy with others, have the initiative to solve problems and seek information to understand students’ needs & expectations;
  • Charisma / Good sense of humour, to engage learners attention while training and assessing them;
  • Enjoy a bit of travelling and a bit of time in office;
  • Work under direction not close supervision

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Significant practical experience in operating/managing/engineering water and wastewater treatment and/or drinking water supply, or sewage collection systems;
  • Certificate III level or above qualification in water/wastewater/network-related discipline;
  • Excellent verbal communication skills in English, with a flair for making technical subjects interesting, and strong writing skills.
  • Current Drivers license

Desirable:

  • Holding the Cert IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116 or TAE40110 + requisite additional units), Diploma or above qualification in adult education

Casual/Relief Water Industry Operator

Simmonds & Bristow are looking for Experienced Treatment Plant Operators for short and long term contracts. Simmonds & Bristow are an integrated water specialists assisting regional, remote and small communities across Australia and the South Pacific to produce potable water and effluent quality of the highest standard. We service a wide range of clients including mines, industrials, resorts and regional councils. We are looking for Casual and Fixed Term Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators.

The kinds of places we go:

  • Resorts (in locations warm and cold)
  • Councils (all over Australia, some remote, some not)
  • Industrial sites (all over Australia, some remote, some not)

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Certificate III in Water and Wastewater Operations, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience in operating/maintaining water &/or wastewater treatment plants.
  • Will hold themselves to high professional standards and be a self-starter.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with management and liaise with clients is important, as is a flexible attitude to work hours.
  • Good written and spoken English plus the ability to follow procedures.
  • An Australian resident and be available for an immediate start.
  • Basic computer skills are also an advantage.

Water / Sewage Treatment Plant Operator (2 Positions)

We help people make good clean water throughout Australia, with special emphasis on looking after small and remote communities; from mines, industry and resorts, to rural towns and indigenous communities.

We are looking for two experienced water and wastewater treatment plant operators to help a small resort operator with producing safe and clean drinking and effluent water.

About the role

The role will be based in a resort in the central Queensland area.

Key duties of the role are to maintain and operate the Water Treatment Plant and Sewage Treatment Plant. Roster will be 4 weeks on 4 weeks off, with a mirror swing.

What’s required:

  • Hold a Certificate III in Water Industry Treatment/Operation or above qualification, or similar
  • Demonstrated experience in operating and maintaining RO and MBR treatment plants
  • Calm, systematic and logical approach to problem-solving
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management and liaise with clients

The role will be based in a regional community in the north-west Queensland region.

Key duties of the role are to maintain and operate a conventional water treatment plant. Treatment processes include chemical coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation and disinfection. The roster will be 4 weeks on and 4 weeks off. The current contract will be 3-month fixed term, with potential to extend.

What’s required:

  • Hold a Certificate III in Water Industry Treatment/Operation or above qualification, or similar
  • Demonstrated experience in operating and maintaining a conventional WTP
  • Calm, systematic and logical approach to problem-solving
  • Ability to work independently
