Water & Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

– Various Locations, QLD & NSW (Fixed-Term Contract)

About the role

We are seeking multiple experienced Water & Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators to join our Relief Services Team on an ongoing basis for fixed-term contracts across Queensland and New South Wales. Remuneration will be based on experience.

  • Position: Water & Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators
  • Location: Various Locations across Queensland
  • Start Date: Immediate Start
  • Duration: Various Fixed Term Full Time Contracts from  4 weeks to 12 months with the possibility of extension for the right candidates
  • Hours: Standard 38-40 hours per week plus possible weekend work, over time and on call where required
  • Rate: Above award hourly rate plus Entitlements accrued i.e. Sick Leave, Annual Leave
  • Accommodation & Travel: Accommodation and Travel arrangements will be covered by Simmonds & Bristow
  • Meals: A weekly meal allowance will be paid

Who are we looking for?

This Relief Plant Operator role will provide the successful candidate with a variety of responsibilities and tasks that will keep them fully engaged. From managing wastewater treatments plants, on-site testing, maintenance/calibration of field equipment to developing job safety analyses and preparation of operation and maintenance manuals.

In addition to extensive proven experience as a Water and/or Wastewater Plant Operator, you will need to possess the following attributes that we believe will position you to be a successful high performer in this role:

  • Love being practical and really enjoy knowing how things work
  • Enjoy analysing technical data and researching topics of interest
  • Have the ability to take complex information and successfully communicate it to a wide range of stakeholders
  • Can analyse numbers and data with ease, you readily see mistakes in data sets
  • Work at a brisk pace and respond well to demands on your time
  • You don’t necessarily enjoy confronting others but you will if absolutely required
  • You are more an active listener than an active talker
  • If there is a problem you usually work out an innovative solution
  • Generally anticipate potential adverse issues before they happen
  • Your friends would say you are a timely decision maker using intuition & objective data
  • You can be like a dog-with-a-bone and dig your heals in when required

To be successful in this role:

  • Must hold a Certificate III in Water Operations, or above or equivalent years of experience
  • Experience in the operations and maintenance of water and/or wastewater treatment plants.
  • Experience in Fluoride and Chlorine Gas handling preferred.
  • Confined space, working at heights and white card certification is an advantage but not always required.
  • Good written and spoken English plus the ability to follow procedures.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Basic computer skills.

General daily duties may include:

  • Water & Wastewater Treatment Plant Operation.
  • Makeup and dosing of plant chemicals.
  • Adjust plant settings.
  • Day to day monitoring and controlling of plant/equipment.
  • Mechanical and electrical equipment monitoring.
  • Routine cleaning of plant and equipment.
  • Taking necessary readings throughout the day.
  • Keeping and maintaining of records.
  • Sampling and daily testing.
  • Minor maintenance of plant.
  • Any other works as directed day to day for plant operation and maintenance.
