June marks Men’s Health Awareness Month – a vital time to shine a light on the physical and mental wellbeing of men and boys across Australia. It’s a movement that helps break down stigma, encourages open conversations, and promotes healthier lives.
This week, 9–15 June, is Men’s Health Week, with events and initiatives happening nationwide to support, celebrate, and empower men in our communities.
The Goals of Men’s Health Week:
- Raise awareness of preventable health issues affecting men and boys.
- Promote healthier lifestyle choices and activities.
- Encourage early detection and treatment of health conditions.
This message is especially important for our remote and isolated workers – our operators – many of whom work away from family and support networks. Knowing what resources are available can make a real difference.
Mental Health Matters – Especially for Our Operators
Mental health is just as important as physical health, and Men’s Health Week is a timely reminder to check in with ourselves and our mates.
For our operators working remotely or in isolation, the challenges can be even greater — long hours, limited social interaction, and being away from loved ones can take a toll. That’s why it’s crucial to know that support is available, and that it’s okay to reach out.
Here are some ways to stay mentally strong:
- Stay connected – even a quick call or message to a mate or family member can make a difference.
- Talk it out – whether it’s with a friend, a colleague, or a professional, sharing how you’re feeling is powerful.
- Use available resources – many organisations offer free, confidential support tailored to men and remote workers.
