Supporting our industry connections – Gympie Regional Conference

Simmonds & Bristow are proud Gold Sponsors of the 2022 Queensland Water Directorate’s (QWD) regional conferences and forums. We recognise the importance of these events in bringing the water and sewerage service industry together with key regulatory agencies to share knowledge and proactively address challenges the sector may be facing.

We really enjoyed catching up with sector colleagues at the Queensland Water Directorate conference hosted by the Gympie Regional Council.

Some excellent conversations were had with senior personnel from TRILITY about the history of the industry and the current state of play, and also with Qld Water about the future direction of training in the industry, how shortfalls could be addressed and how competition could be managed within what is a relatively small market.

We also caught up with many other old industry hands and had interesting conversations with the State around online delivery of lessons, such as, how do you teach a young learner how much pressure to put on a valve, online? Online and virtual is a great way to train, but when we teach bespoke courses, in person, we see the lightbulbs go on with our learners.

Students were present and participating from culturally diverse campuses such as Russia, Bhutan and Iran; all trying to develop their profession in Australia, which was great to see. The host council gave an excellent tour (below) and a follow-up presentation on the impacts of the floods in Gympie.

The next event on the calendar is the three day Gold Cost Annual Conference – Qld Water from 6-8 September 2022.
